Appointment

The Institute is pleased to welcome Dr. Jigmi Basumatary, who has joined the Jyoti and Bhupat Mehta School of Health Sciences and Technology as Assistant Professor in October 2026. He specialises in photoacoustic/ultrasound imaging, single-molecule imaging, and light-sheet imaging.
Dr. Basumatary comes to IIT Guwahati after serving as Assistant Professor in the Department of Biosciences and Bioengineering, IIT Jammu. His earlier research appointments include:
Postdoctoral Research at INRAE, University Paris-Saclay, France, where he worked on single-molecule imaging of Arabidopsis using dSTORM and FLIM imaging of secondary cell structures, under Dr. Kalina T. Haas
Postdoctoral Research at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech), Pasadena, USA, with a focus on photoacoustic/ultrasound imaging and the development of single-shot, single-element dual-mode acoustic computed tomography, under Prof. Lihong V. Wang
Dr. Basumatary completed his PhD in Engineering at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, in 2024, under the supervision of Prof. Partha P. Mondal. His thesis work was on Single Molecule Based Spatio-temporal Super-resolution Microscopy for Visualizing Single Molecule Dynamics in Cellular System. He also holds an MTech by Research from IISc Bengaluru, and a BTech in Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering from the National Institute of Technology Silchar, Assam.
It is a pleasure to welcome Dr. Basumatary to the Institute and we wish him the very best for his academic career at IIT Guwahati.
