IIT Guwahati Launches Three Month Certificate Programme on 3D Printing Technology for Armed Forces

A Certificate Programme for Junior Commissioned Officers/Other Ranks (JCOs/ORs) was launched at IIT Guwahati on 28th September. The three-month programme will provide armed forces personnel with a knowledge of 3D printing as this technology is expected to play an increasingly important role in Industry 4.0

The Centre for Educational Technology (CET), in collaboration with the IIT Guwahati Technology Innovation and Development Foundation (IITG TIDF), TIH and Department of Mechanical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati has launched a three month Certificate Programme on 3D Printing Technology for JCOs/ORs from the Indian Armed Forces.

The future of 3D printing is promising, with continuous advancements in multi-material printing, metal additive manufacturing, AI-assisted design, sustainable materials, and bioprinting. Industries are increasingly adopting 3D printing for personalized manufacturing, rapid production, and decentralized supply chains. As technology continues to evolve, 3D printing is expected to play an increasingly important role in Industry 4.0, smart manufacturing, and digital fabrication.

3D Printing Technology has already revolutionized modern manufacturing by enabling the production of complex, customized, and high-quality products with greater efficiency and reduced material waste. Its application extends across diverse fields including education, healthcare, aerospace, automotive and industrial production, where it provides innovative solutions to manufacturing challenges that were previously difficult or impossible to address. As research and technology continue to advance, 3D printing is likely to become an increasingly important tool for innovation, sustainable production and advanced manufacturing.

The formal inauguration of the programme took place on 28th September, 2026 (Monday) at CET, IIT Guwahati. The event was graced by the distinguished presence of Prof. Hemant B. Kaushik, Dean of Outreach Education and Skilling, IIT Guwahati; Dr. Sajan Kapil, Course Coordinator, TIDF (TIH Division) and Faculty, Department of Mechanical Engineering; Dr. Salil Kashyap, Coordinator, Centre for Educational Technology (CET); and Lt. Col. Hitesh Issar, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
