Techniche @ IIT Guwahati: Robotics Entrepreneurship and Entertainment

The 26th edition of Techniche started on 27th August, drawing more than 50,000 visitors across four days of competitive robotics events, technopreneurship, and cultural performances on campus.

This year's Techniche, IIT Guwahati's annual techno-management fest, was inaugurated on 27th August at Bhupen Hazarika Auditorium. The theme for the year was "Evolved Beings".

The inauguration was followed by a performance by the Illuminati Dance Crew.

Throughout the fest, participants enthusiastic about building robots tested their creations in a variety of ways. The Cricket Ground was the arena for Robowars, where manually-controlled wireless robots fought head-to-head from 9 am to 10 pm.

Outside Old Sac, a different kind of contest unfolded in Escalade, now in its fifteenth edition, where robots climbed a vertical pole and launched balls at targets. Line Quest asked autonomous robots to map a maze on a dry run before completing it in the shortest possible time. Track Titans sent remote-controlled cars around a course outside Old Sac, while Aquawars moved the contest onto water, at the IITG Lake, where robots were built to withstand turbulence and take on an opponent.

Alongside the competitions, the fest opened its floor to ideas with a longer horizon.

• STPI ran an entrepreneurship hackathon in Lecture Hall 1, pairing participants with mentors and offering a route to incubation support.

• Avinya, organised by the Prakriti Club, challenged teams to build solutions for climate change and sustainability.

• Nexus, the annual conference for students interested in management and enterprise, opened with an ice-breaking session, a talk from Shabnam Katoch, and the release of its own hackathon — later bringing in a session with Mohan Kumar and a panel discussion, before closing with a networking lunch on the final day.

• The Lecture Series brought Raj Kapoor and Bhanu Pathak to the Main Auditorium on Day One, followed by Sourabh Pateriya on Day Two. The lecture series has, over the years, hosted Nobel Laureates, chief executives and policymakers. A panel discussion added further voices to the conversation

Younger visitors had their own stage. Technothlon, the school championship for classes 9 to 12, opened on Day One in the Mini Auditorium, while TechExpo, at the IITG Circle, gave schools, colleges and startups a platform to display their projects to the public. ArmyExpo, running alongside it, offered a look at the equipment and vehicles used by the Indian Armed Forces, with army personnel on hand to answer questions.

The fest closed as it began — with a performance. Comedy Night filled the Main Auditorium on Day Two, and After the Sunset brought the Cricket Ground back to life on the final evening, closing four days that had a hackathon, multiple robotics challenges, numerous talks and networking opportunities, and a conference.
